A Garden's Purpose
The concept behind this book is to share the various ways gardening may benefit our lives. My mother and I always garden together and I find this interaction with nature quite inspiring, so I decided to create a book around it. I gathered information about various experiences people had with gardening and then designed a book to best communicate these experiences in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Target Audience: Anyone who enjoys gardening or is interested in the relationship between people and nature
Role in Projects: I was the initiator of this research and discussion about gardening. I conducted a survey to gain feedback about people’s experiences with gardening and then designed a book with this feedback as well as my own thoughts.
Skills: Survey creation and analyzation, photograph curation, creative concept initiation, creative altering of photographs, typographic layout skills, drawing
Process: I came up with this concept during a discussion with my mother about gardening. I began the book process by creating survey questions and surveying people on their experiences with gardening. I then curated photographs from both my own collection as well as those sent to me by survey takers. Once I had all of my information I began designing a book that would convey this information in a clean, creative manner.

Duration: The entire book including research and designing took approximately a month to finish.
Challenges & Successes: My main challenge with this project was deciding how to convey the information I was receiving through my survey. I could have written in my own words the summary of the feedback I was receiving, but I found the information more powerful when heard from many different people. My success with this project was the ability to stay minimalistic. I tend to over-design in my work, so I was happy with how easily I was able to keep a clean, simplistic design for this book.
