A photo I took at one of the O'Brien Center Events
Target Audience: Merrimack College students, faculty, staff and stakeholders
Role in Projects: Graphic design for print and screen, independent and collaborative work. I designed marketing materials such as brochures, posters, postcards, power points, event signage, infographics, social media posts and more. I assisted with photography and created social media campaigns to support the marketing team in advertising O’Brien Center services.
Skills: Social media proficiency, ability to follow brand guidelines, strong layout and typographic design, ability to work under tight deadlines, ability to curate images from a selection of professional photographs and choose imagery that pairs well with branding guidelines, and strong written, verbal and visual communication skills
Process: My supervisors created the project guidelines with specific criteria for me to incorporate. During the process, I would receive feedback about my designs and adjust them as needed. I worked remotely during this job, and would meet with my supervisor once a week. All other communication was done virtually.

Project 1: Event Posters
I designed these two posters for a networking event that all liberal arts students were invited to attend. I was given the information that needed to be included on the posters, but I chose the imagery and designed the layouts.
Duration: Both posters together took about 2 hours to complete.
Challenges & Successes: The main challenge for the posters was designing the layout, especially in the second one which includes much more text. In order for the posters to stand out from other O'Brien Center marketing, I chose photographs that had a bit more color in them so that the information popped. I found success in pairing more complex photographs with simple layout designs.

Project 2: Banner Advertisement
I designed this banner for Merrimack College's 2019 Spring Career Fair. The banner was hung in our campus center and its purpose was to advertise the career fair. I was given the 2018 file which did not follow brand guidelines, and I adjusted the layout, colors and typography of the design to better fit the college's branding guidelines.
Duration: The banner took approximately an hour to complete.
Challenges & Successes: The main challenge for this banner was working with the new Spring Career Fair logo. I did not design the logo for the event. I had to work with the style and layout of this logo to create a banner design that looked cohesive overall. I was successful in creating a branded banner that looked cohesive and attractive.

Project 3: Social Media Posts and Event Advertising
For every event or campaign that the O'Brien Center puts on, there is a social media post, flyer, postcard and poster created. Below are some examples of these works for events and campaigns such as the Professional Development Retreat, Get Hired Up Campaign Internship, Marketing Roundtable and other departmental events.
Duration: Social media posts typically take 30 minutes to make while flyers, posters and postcards take an hour or two.
Challenges & Successes: The main challenge for these advertising materials is to make them all unique and attractive to the specific target audience. Working under the same branding guidelines for every event makes individualizing them difficult, but I like the challenge. I am usually quite successful in creating designs that speak to the specific audience the event or campaign is geared towards.

Project 4: Office Collateral
I am responsible for creating and updating materials for the career advisors to use in advising students. Below are some examples of office collateral the advisors might use in meetings or give to students.
Duration: The six advisor postcards took approximately 9 hours to complete and the Job Search Guide took about 3 hours to type and layout.
Challenges & Successes: The challenge for these projects was fitting all of the needed information in the space I was given. The back of the postcard feels busy to me, but I found great success in building a table for the walk-in hours. This internship has challenged me by giving me a lot of text to put in my designs and I feel as though I am overcoming these challenges creatively.
